Adopt a Runner
is a project that builds confidence in kids, which offers them a real life insight into what it means to participate in sport.
How does it work?
Classrooms from local primary schools have already signed up and are ready to contact you.
They want to “adopt” an athlete, get to know them, learn what it takes to run or walk around the lake, ask them about their diet, training regime or what inspired them to take part.
They will contact you through email, or whatever medium you are comfortable with. Ask a maximum of 5 questions (or more if you are comfortable) and wait for your response.
Schools often come out to support their adopted runners on the day and congratulate their them on taking part.
Who is Involved?
The programme is a joint initiative between Rotorua Lakes Council, Sport BOP and Athletics NZ, that has the support of Rotorua Schools, many of which take part in the Rotorua mini marathon.
Why should you be adopted?
If you want to be part of a positive programme that inspires and motivates Rotorua’s up and coming youngsters to take up walking and running, this is for you.
It’s a great project that has so many benefits for all involved. If you are keen to be involved, contact Christine Hutchinson
