Achilles supporting people with disabilities

Achilles New Zealand is part of Achilles International which is a worldwide organisation whose mission is to enable people with all types of disabilities to participate in mainstream athletic events, to promote personal achievement, enhance self esteem and lower barriers.  Achilles NZ Ambassadors not only guide Achilles members through various events including the marathon but selflessly help us raise awareness of the Achilles mission nationwide.

There are Achilles chapters throughout New Zealand located in Auckland, Hamilton, Rotorua, Napier/Hastings, Wellington and Christchurch with the aim of setting up new chapters in Tauranga, Dunedin and Invercargill in 2018. The Rotorua Chapter especially looks forward to the Rotorua Marathon each year and are very hospitable hosts!!!

Achilles NZ and all its members and guides are excited about participating in one of our signature events for 2018 - the Rotorua Marathon along with the associated events. Planning and training is well underway and the Achilles family is excited about being part of such an iconic event and one marathon with so much rich athletic history.

Look out for Achilles members and guides on May 5 at the 54th running of the Rotorua marathon in their bright yellow uniform and once you have finished come and visit Achilles and share your stories with some good food at the Achilles Marque usually situated near the finish line.
