Rotorua Marathon Survivors Club


After the completion of the 55th Rotorua Marathon on Saturday 4 May 2019 21 joined the events prestigious Survivors Club taking the club’s full membership to 586. It is known that 49 have “gone but are not forgotten”, giving the active membership at 537

113 who were members after the 2018 event headed off around Lake Rotorua to add another number to their Rotorua Marathon tally.

The following joined the Club after completing a lap of Lake Rotorua and crossing the Government Gardens finish line.

15 years:  Chris Allum, Debra Allum, Brendan Bell, Tim Carroll, Simon Clendon, Virginia Crawford, Robert Dyer, John Edmonson, John Hines, Brian Jones, Mary Kururangi, Duncan Leuchars, Robin Loomes, Adrian Lysaght, Daniel Nicolson, Kiri Price, Ravindra Raj, Allan Shadbolt, Winston Sweatman, Joy Tallentire and Henry Tamapeau.

20 years: James Burnside, Lex Chalmers, Willie Doney, Jim Goodwin, Mark Knowles, Marylin McGrath, Arthur Morris, Charlotte Nasey, and Kathy Young

25 years:  Wayne Hart, Chris Leahy, Don Nicolson, Michael Rogers, Keith Scholes, Robyn Skelton, Denise Stewart-Jacks, and Mel Tuineau

30 years: Dennis Hunt, Collen Falloon, Albie Jane, Terry Rose, Robert Scott and Barry Watson.

35 years: Paul Taylor

40 years: Michael Stewart

Courtesy of the event owners, Athletics New Zealand, all were presented at the Saturday evening prize giving with their official Survivors polo shirt, which are embroidered with the club’s logo and the milestone each have reached. Pat Smyth and James Crosswell presented the shirts.

If you believe you could be eligible for admission to the Club in 2019, please email Pam Kenny at  or or post to 3 Haratua Place, Rotorua 3015 details of the previous 14 Rotorua Marathons you have finished (time and years) and if your family name has changed your former names(s).This is so these details can be verified against the events records. It is important that this information is advised well before the 2020 event to allow time for your prestigious polo shirt to be ordered in.

Participation in the Half Marathon, 5km or 10km events does not count towards membership: neither does the rained out 1999 event.

In our last mail out to members several postal letters and emails have been returned. Should you have changed your postal address and / or your email address please contact Pam at either of the above addresses.
