New course in 2025, starting in the historic Government Gardens weaving around the steaming Lake Rotorua waters edge through a section of the world-famous Sulphur Flats before coming back out onto the marathon course heading back to a rocking finish in the vibe of the city. This 5km journey is your ticket to an unforgettable Rotorua experience – nature, history, and a whole lot of fun!

Join your friends and family for a charming traverse of a small selection of Rotorua city’s delights.

Minimum Age Entrants must be 10 years or older on race day to compete.
Prizegiving The prize giving for the 5km will take place at 12.00pm on the Lakefront Reserve across the street from the Novotel Rotorua. Some spot prizes for the 5km event will be randomly drawn from all event entrants at prize giving. You must be present to collect your prize.
Walkers Walkers are welcome to enter the event. For clarity, walkers are included in the overall event results. Walkers should keep left at all times.
Merchandise Event t-shirts are not included in your entry however can be pre-ordered on the Rotorua Marathon website. or a limited number will be available to purchase at the expo. All pre-ordered merchandise is pick up only from the event registration & expo at Novotel Rotorua commencing Thursday evening 1st May (see event registration & expo times here).

Uncollected merchandise will not be sent out post-event.

Course

5km will also start in the Government Gardens in 2025 heading down Queens Drive to Hatupatu Drive before turning right heading towards the picturesque Sulphur Flats area taking in a small section before heading back out onto the main marathon route back to the finish. 

This distance is perfect for fundraising groups, families and anyone beginning their running journey.
