A 5km run or walk suitable for both social and elite participants whether you're striving for a new personal 5km record on our lightning-fast course. Imagine yourself racing under the moonlight, speeding along the Rotorua Airport runway.

Runway5 is proud to once again partner with the Mokoia Island Trust.
All Runway5 entries will contribute to ongoing Kiwi conservation on the island on Mokoia Island, home to over 30 breeding pairs.

Entrants of the Runway5 must be 10 years or older on race day to participate.

By request from airport operations - no dogs, bikes, scooters, or skateboards are allowed. Prams and buggies are not allowed on the course (however, spectators are welcome to bring prams/wheelchairs in designated spectating areas.) |
Wheelchair Participation |
Self-propelled wheelchairs and para-athletes are able to participate. For any questions, email us at marathon@athletics.org.nz
| Walkers |
Walkers are eligble to enter the People's 5km (course cut off 55 minutes). For clarity, walkers are included in the overall event results. |
| Medals | All participants will receive a customised Runway5 medal in the theme of the occasion. |

Course
A fitting finale to Red Stag Rotorua Marathon day, prepare to be captivated and entertained with New Zealand’s premier 5km experience at night under the stars and lights of Rotorua Regional Airport. Raising money for the Mokoia Island Kiwi colony (directly across Lake Rotorua from the Rotorua Airport runway) with K’s for Kiwis.
Every K counts. The best running and walking surface you could wish for. Move to the beats and help us to bring the curtain down on this epic day.
